Full Quiet - A New Adventure Game for the NES & PC

Created by Retrotainment Games

Full Quiet is our latest game for the NES and PC. Something has taken your son, you must venture deep into the forest to find him. This game will be an entirely new experience, different from anything that we've attempted up to now and different from anything in the NES catalog. We're going to do our best to bring you something that will challenge you in new ways and bring you into a mysterious, enigmatic world of forgotten lore. Deep within the forest you'll encounter strange, cryptic creatures and beasts.. some who will help you, some who wish to destroy everything that you hold dear. The adventure begins one morning when you find that something has taken your son; you must find him, eradicate those who have taken him from you and restore order to the forest. Along the way you'll have to upgrade your equipment, learn the mysteries of the forest and its unknown inhabitants, solve puzzles, hunt down enemy creatures, befriend helpful creatures and craft new objects to accomplish your mission.. to find your son and silence the forest.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Physical Materials - Summer Update
over 1 year ago – Sat, Sep 03, 2022 at 05:28:32 AM

Hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of Summer! Boxes have been shipped to us, we should have them any day now. I was hoping to have them on hand to take some better pics but I didn't want to delay this update any further so I'll just post the images from the factory here:

LE - Front and Back
RE - Front and Back

Also, labels for REs and LEs:

LE - Cart and Label
RE - Cart and Label

The final piece of the puzzle are the boards. I've been waiting to post this update until I could lock in a production schedule with InfiniteNESLives and earlier today I received confirmation from them that they can have enough boards ready by the end of August for us to fulfill all Kickstarter orders. So a little later than we had hoped but just glad that chip shortages and general supply chain issues didn't delay things any further.

While we wait for boards to get here we'll be sending out new surveys for updated addresses. I'll post another update once those go out so you know to look for them.

Physical Materials Rolling In
almost 2 years ago – Thu, Jul 07, 2022 at 08:33:25 PM

Our custom shell color is finally here. The local shop that we go through had some difficulties that really slowed down production on these; among those were labor shortages, Covid outbreaks and serious delays in the plastics industry at large. Steps that used to take weeks are now taking months, which we did not expect at all. We haven't had a custom shell color made in a while and this caught us completely off guard. But we're rolling along now! Below are some pictures of the shells coming off the line and looking great:

I acknowledge that It's been a while since the last update and I apologize for that. Our bi-monthly-ish updates had been the norm for a while but since there wasn't much to report I let it slip. Now that we've got the shells rolling though, the rest should come in more quickly; we're just waiting on the printed materials and the boards from Infinite NES Lives. For printed materials we do not expect delays because we've had other materials printed more recently and everything went smoothly. For INL boards, they've been hard at work finalizing the design. Last week they sent us these wonderfully nerdy pics:

Assuming printed materials and boards take their usual turnaround time, we should be in production in June and shipping by late June / early July. I can't lock in an exact date yet until we have everything in hand but we're very close to finish line now that we've got the shells. I'll post another update once I have more info on the remaining materials.

Thank You Play Testers!
about 2 years ago – Tue, Feb 22, 2022 at 09:55:00 AM

Before getting to the details of this update I'd like to bring to your attention a really awesome Kickstarter project for an NES cartridge that plays digital video AND audio on your NES. Best part about it - no console mods are required! A good friend of ours is the artist behind the music and is running the campaign here: http://kck.st/3jGAnnx  It's about to hit its final 2 days so don't doddle :)

The last couple months have been a great experience watching hours and hours and hours of video footage, reviewing notes, going back and forth with the play testers and figuring out the best ways to revise the build accordingly.  For those testers who haven't yet responded, time is pretty much up, so if you've got feedback for us please send it right away or we'll be past the point of taking it into consideration.

Here's some imagery highlights of the feedback we got from testers:

Awesome Testing Facility!
Hand-Drawn Cliffs Map - Just Like the Good 'Ole Days
Testing with Friends
Fancy Modern Spreadsheet Map

This is the first time we've done anything like this and it was well worth it to see how players reacted to various things in the game. Sure, we've showcased the game at conventions, but it's a completely different experience when we're not standing next to the players helping them through a demo in the few minutes you have. Testers were on their own, just dropped into the game world with limited instruction on how to proceed, with no one there to help and no walkthroughs online to reference. It was very cool to be invited into their living rooms to watch and listen to them playtest, I can't thank all of you enough for that experience!

So what's next? Well, now that we've made revisions based on tester feedback and added the stuff we removed for the test build back in, we've gotta finish the final boss fight and work in a little more of the story elements. Then we'll be moving on to physical materials. While we wait on those orders to arrive we'll have our internal testers bang away on what will effectively be the final beta build to see if they can break anything. We'll fix/balance whatever they find but by and large we should be done with the build in a couple weeks!

Speaking of physical materials... We ordered the LE silver carts long ago so those are ready. That just leaves the second regular edition cartridge shell color (the non-gray color option) which we just completed the color-match process for. We settled on this radio-green color because it matches the color of the NES palette that we use throughout the game to signify radio waves and interference:

$2B From the NES Palette

We started box art long ago so we'll work on finishing that up and we've begun work on the manual now that we know what all is making the final cut of the game. Once I have some finalized-ish art for these things I'll share on here and we'll hopefully have an idea on when materials will be received so we can immediately start manufacturing.

And Another Mockup

Hope everyone who celebrates such things has a great Thanksgiving!!

Test Carts Shipped
over 2 years ago – Mon, Aug 02, 2021 at 02:58:38 AM

Hey everyone! A lot more progress was made through June and July on the game build to get it ready for testing. We got the boards in last week, ran some tests and made some revisions after seeing things run on the actual hardware for the first time (very exciting stuff!). Yesterday we worked to get everything finalized, assembled the carts and packed them up for shipment.

There's a couple testers I'm still waiting on address verifications from, so if you're a test cart backer and haven't responded please check your inboxes or message me directly through Kickstarter.

The next step in the process will be gathering feedback and making the necessary revisions to the build. In the meantime we'll work on finishing up box art and starting the manual layout as well as finishing up some things that aren't in the test build like story and bosses.

Who doesn't like seeing a stack of sexy yellow test carts...
Flashing the ROM to the carts. Special thanks to Paul at INL for helping with the process!
Always a great feeling to see SUCCESS.
Bye bye boxes.

Testers Get Ready!! Cartridges Shells In.. Boards In Production
almost 3 years ago – Sat, May 22, 2021 at 08:32:31 AM

Quick shout out to a new Zelda-like NES game called "Anguna: Scourge Of The Goblin King", here on Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/solegoose/anguna-scourge-of-the-goblin-king?ref=3g8295&token=406799bb

Game development has mostly been focused on pathing puzzles and inventory management, which doesn't make for good visuals.. so here's some pics of physical things instead...

Clearly we're going for the look of the old Nintendo test carts. Can't beat that yellow cart with black and white label :)

We plan to ship these test carts out next month to those who backed them, I'll post a quick update when they ship. For the backers who receive these, we ask that you bang away on them (on the game I mean, not the actual cartridge) and try to break the build in any way you can. So as not to ruin the experience of the full game, there will be very limited story in this build, just enough to give you the info you need along the way. There will also not be any bosses and some puzzles will be excluded as well. So while you'll get a good sense of what the game is all about, you won't spoil the fun of playing through the final release. As a reminder, please do not post feedback in the comments section here; we wouldn't want to spoil anything for other backers, right?!?! We also ask that you refrain from posting about things in the game to social media until the game is released. I will be reaching out to you directly for all correspondence through email. (yes, I'm a dinosaur).

INL is currently hard at work on the final PCB design. Once we have them in our hands we can flash the ROM to them, assemble the carts and ready them for shipment.

Additionally, we've ordered color samples for the cartridge shells. We hope to have those this month so we can finalize the second regular edition cartridge color. The standard gray shell will be available for those who refuse to stray... Nathan ;)
